Audit an Existing Screen
Find the slop in a page that already ships, decide how much there is, and fix it in nine ordered passes.
You don't need a fresh project to use the kit. Most of its value shows up on a page that already exists and already looks like everyone else's.
1. Look first
Take screenshots at mobile (~375), tablet (~768) and desktop (~1280), in light and dark if both exist. Don't audit a page you haven't seen.
2. Run /slop-audit
It checks the screen against the slop signs and rates it heavy, light or none. A heavy rating means the direction itself is missing; it will write or confirm one in DESIGN_MAP.md and stop for approval before fixing anything.
3. Fix in order
The nine passes run in a fixed order, because later passes depend on earlier ones:
- Spacing
- Color
- Icons
- Copy
- Type
- Layout
- Details
- Visuals
- Motion
Subtract first. Most slop is addition: extra cards, badges, gradients, icons. Removing one usually fixes two.
4. Get a read that isn't yours
Ask for the design-critic agent. It judges the rendered screen against the map and runs the competitor test without being anchored on the code just written. For forms, dialogs and navigation add /interface-check; for animation, /motion-review; for long names, empty lists and RTL, /stress-ui.
5. Log what you didn't fix
Findings you leave go into linear.md under Next or Later, not into this change.
